2016年10月19日下午2点,应南师大科协、计算机学院邀请,澳大利亚卧龙岗大学王雷副教授在仙林校区S2楼109室做学术报告。王雷副教授报告题为“Content-based Image Retrieval in the Era of Deep Learning”。报告会由计算机学院副院长杨明教授主持,我校部分教师和研究生聆听了整场报告。
Lei Wang received his PhD degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2004. He is now Associate Professor at School of Computing and Information Technology of University of Wollongong, Australia. His research interests include computer vision and pattern recognition. Lei Wang has published 100+ peer-reviewed papers, including those in highly regarded journals and conferences such as IEEE TPAMI, IJCV, CVPR, ICCV and ECCV, etc. He was awarded the Early Career Researcher Award by Australian Academy of Science and Australian Research Council. He served as the General Co-Chair of DICTA 2014 and on the Technical Program Committees of 20+ international conferences and workshops. Lei Wang is senior member of IEEE.
Content-based Image Retrieval (CBIR) aims to find images from a large image database that can meet the requirements submitted by a user. As one of the central topics in computer vision and pattern recognition, CBIR has attracted intensive research during the past two decades and made significant progress. It has been extensively applied to many areas and is gradually changing the way we live. This talk will give a general introduction on CBIR and the related key techniques. Particularly, following the timeline of the development of CBIR, we will focus on three stages: the early days, the years dominated by the Bag-of-features model, and the new era of deep learning. It is expected that through this process, we will be able to better understand the difficulties of CBIR, the achievements made so far, and the remaining issues that need to be resolved in the future.
王雷副教授的报告拓展了大家的视野,也为老师同学们的研究思路提供了很多启示。报告结束后部分师生与王雷老师进行了深入地探讨,大家收获颇丰。
